Community Development Centres
Local presence, local leadership
Fifty centres across the Kingdom – the foundation for everything else on this page.
The centres, institutes, enterprises and partnerships through which Johud works, and the wider network of Jordanian institutions linked to it.
No single organisation owns development in Jordan. It happens through a web of relationships: community committees and volunteers, government and business, schools and health centres, civil society, researchers and donors.
What the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (Johud) brings is a network of centres and institutions built over five decades, each rooted in its place. Our centres are where these relationships meet on the ground.

Local presence, local leadership
Fifty centres across the Kingdom – the foundation for everything else on this page.

Learning that improves practice
Johud’s national institute for development learning, research and training. Its job in the next phase is to carry what the centres learn into the national conversation, and bring what we learn nationally back to the centres – and through them to communities.

Solidarity rooted in the community
Jordan’s national campaign for social solidarity since 1991. Last year it reached 22,489 people, 78 per cent of them in households headed by women. Needs are identified locally by people who know the families, so support is given with dignity.

In development
Young people leading their communities
A youth-led space for volunteering, leadership and civic life, giving young people a lasting way to organise and lead where they live.

The community’s voice
Community radio that brings people’s stories and everyday realities into the public conversation.

Learning without barriers
A school where deaf and hard-of-hearing students learn, communicate and build the confidence they need for life after school. Since 1977.

A home, not just an institution
Founded in 1958 by Her Majesty the late Queen Zein Al Sharaf, the Mabarrat is a safe home in Marka where orphaned children and those most in need of care grow up, learn and get ready for the future.

Heritage, made by hand
Jordanian ceramics handmade by more than 16 artisans, women and men, with over thirty years of experience behind them. Every piece is made by someone we know by name.

Skills that become income
A social enterprise built on the crafts and skills of the women and men in our network, turning what they make well into products with real value and a place in the market.

Finance closer to people
Sharia-compliant finance for people banks don’t reach: small amounts, assessed locally, that help families and small business owners stand on their own feet.
Johud and the Queen Zein Al Sharaf Institute for Development give an organisational home and a point of connection to several national bodies working on women, population, rural development and public participation. Each has its own mandate and remit.
