JOHUD launches emergency Goodwill Family Relief Fund to help those most affected by Coronavirus

The Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) is today launching the Family Relief Fund to help those families most at risk from the health and economic impacts of the Coronavirus.

The Family Relief Fund will allow JOHUD to extend its efforts to provide emergency support to vulnerable families from every governorate, with a focus on underserved groups, including:

- Abandoned families
- Widows
- Orphaned childrenM
- Those with disabilities or chronic illnesses that prevent them from working, and families with children with special needs

The Family Relief Fund will provide:
- Cash cards for essential family needs
- Vital medical support, including providing medicines, sanitary products, and facilitating life-saving interventions by the medical community
- Assistance for home-based businesses, such as small farming, home food and handicraft production enterprises
- Improved shelter for those in inadequate or dangerous accommodation, such as leaking roofs or poor sanitation or energy provision

JOHUD is calling on anyone who is able to donate, even just a little, to help provide for such families. Just a few J.D. can make a difference, and the new funding mechanism will give people the choice of topping up family cash allowance cards, paying Zakat, or making a general financial donation. You can donate by visiting the JOHUD website, using the eFAWATEERcom app, making a direct bank transfer (bank details below), or through Orange and Zain e-wallets.

The Fund will target 50-100 families in each governorate, focusing mostly on governorates outside Amman. JOHUD has already identified many of the families that will benefit, using data analytics and its network of Community Development Centres. The Family Relief Fund will help those who do not have social security or health insurance and are not already receiving support from elsewhere.

Farah Daghistani, Executive Director of JOHUD, said: “The Coronavirus has placed an extraordinary strain on Jordan’s economy and health system, and this is already affecting the poorest people in our society. The lockdown is helping keep families safe across the country, but we must ensure we protect those whose livelihoods have been affected. JOHUD and other organisations are responding as best they can, but this crisis requires an extraordinary response. That’s why we are asking anyone who can to donate to the Goodwill Family Relief Fund.”

JOHUD has an outstanding track record of good governance, transparency, accountability and effectiveness. Through its network of CDCs and its experience running the annual Goodwill Campaign, JOHUD has a proven ability to provide emergency support to those who need it most. The charity has committed to provide regular updates on the numbers of families that this fund has reached, and the type of assistance provided. All operations and reports are audited and supervised by the Goodwill Campaign Higher Committee, under the leadership of H.R. H. Princess Basma Bint Talal, Chairperson of JOHUD, who launched the Campaign in 1991.

JOHUD is ready to provide additional support immediately, subject to government guidelines and safety procedures, in coordination with local authorities
