The Orange Foundation announced signing an agreement to establish three new sites within the umbrella of the Women’s Digital Center program, which the company implements in partnership with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD).
The new sites will fall under the Orange Jordan and the European Union joint project, the "Innovation Space", a 3-year program co-funded by the European Union’s “Innovation for Enterprise Growth and Jobs” program “Innovate Jordan.
”This new agreement was announced during an event held by the company on the occasion of International Women's Day via Zoom, attended by the CEO of Orange Jordan/ Chairman of the Board of Directors of Orange Foundation Jordan, Thierry Marigny, and the Executive Director of JOHUD, Farah Al-Daghestani, the EU team, female media representatives and social media influencers.
The Orange Foundation and European Union will fund the establishment of the new centers located in Al- Aqaba, Sheikh Hussein and Mu'ta, to be added to the five Orange centers affiliated with JOHUD, which are the Queen Zain Al Sharaf Developmental Institute, the Social Support Center in Amman, and Princess Basma Centers for Development in Madaba, Taybeh in Ma'an and Khaldiya in Mafraq governorate.
Orange Jordan also announced the winners of the Amazing Woman award, presented by the Orange Foundation, held for the fifth consecutive to honor the creative participants in the Women Digital Center program in the countries in which the Group operates and provide them with the necessary support to develop their projects.
Ibtisam Al Shoa’ra from Madaba won for her aloe vera project and Samira Mutlaq from Mafraq for her peanut butter, and received a grant of 5,000 euros, in addition to the guidance provided by a member of the Orange Foundation team and JOHUD.
In his speech, Marigny congratulated women on their international day, saying: "We are proud of every woman, of her ability, and we appreciate her important role and strive to empower her further.” He noted that Orange Foundation in cooperation with its partners, ensured that women in local communities benefit from the digital revolution, especially as these centers are spread across the Kingdom.
Marigny added: “Today we celebrate women and their achievements, just in time of our celebrating the graduation of the second cohort of the women’s digital centers, which includes 77 ambitious and distinguished women who have proven their ability to create projects with socioeconomic feasibility and an impact on the national economy. I would also like to thank JOHUD for this fruitful cooperation.”
Daghistani expressed JOHUD’s pride in women’s pioneering efforts across the kingdom and their ability to generate sustainable income for their selves and their families, despite the difficult circumstances.
She added: “The continued impact of the women’s digital centers plays a crucial role in the expansion of entrepreneurial mindset needed within Jordan to enable economic empowerment for women and families following the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic”.
The Women Digital Center program represents one of Orange Jordan's most influential efforts to provide women in various parts of the Kingdom with digital, entrepreneurial, managerial and social media marketing skills, with the aim of empowering them to develop their own projects, increase their profitability, and enhance their socioeconomic contribution.
Notably, Orange Jordan and JOHUD recently renewed their strategic and extended partnership agreement for the nineteenth year to provide livelihood and educational support to underprivileged families and individuals in the Kingdom, especially through JOHUD’s Goodwill campaign.
The European Union funded "Innovation Space" is a pioneering initiative in Jordan and a one-stop-shop for digital innovation and entrepreneurial support. It will introduce digital culture to the wider Jordanian public, foster digital skills, especially among women and youth, and promote and nurture entrepreneurship by identifying key opportunities for digital economic growth.
