11 ,Mar 2025

HRH Princess Basma bint Talal, Chairperson of the Higher Committee of the Goodwill Campaign, distributed emergency aid provided by the campaign to disadvantaged families in Burma, Jerash Governorate, on Thursday.

Her Royal Highness also distributed Eid clothing and gifts to 60 orphaned and vulnerable children in the area.

As part of the campaign’s support efforts, HRH Princess Basma handed over essential equipment and production supplies to Shahd Al-Sabah Charitable Association to sustain its community kitchen project, which aims to empower local women by supporting them in producing and marketing traditional food products—helping them generate income for their families.

During the aid distribution, which was attended by Jerash Governor Dr. Firas Al-Fa’our and Burma Mayor Aqab Al-Salamat, HRH Princess Basma reaffirmed the campaign’s commitment, in collaboration with its partners, to improving the living conditions of families and vulnerable groups across the Kingdom, reflecting the values of solidarity and social cohesion.

Her Royal Highness emphasised that the Goodwill Campaign continues to serve its target groups through a wide range of programmes, in line with its noble humanitarian mission to support and uplift disadvantaged communities.

On the occasion of Mother’s Day and the anniversary of the Battle of Karama, HRH Princess Basma paid tribute to Jordanian women and mothers, acknowledging their vital role and sacrifices in building families and contributing to the nation’s development. She highlighted the unwavering support of His Majesty King Abdullah II for Jordanian women, who remain a symbol of dedication and generosity.

Her Royal Highness also commended the efforts of Shahd Al-Sabah Charitable Association, particularly its awareness and educational initiatives, and stressed the importance of developing ideas and initiatives that create job opportunities and capitalise on the region’s tourism and environmental resources.

During the visit, Tariq Shatnawi, Manager of the Princess Basma Development Centre in Jerash, presented an overview of the campaign’s interventions in Jerash and Burma, including employment days, vocational training courses for youth and women, and aid distribution in collaboration with partners.

Additionally, Shorouq Hanatleh, President of Shahd Al-Sabah Charitable Association, outlined the organisation’s goals and programmes. Established in 2015, the association supports around 103 disadvantaged families in the area and sponsors 76 orphans.

Hanatleh explained that the association, the only one of its kind in the region, aims to use the community kitchen project to prepare and sell traditional dishes and sweets to visitors in Jerash’s tourist areas, as well as participate in national exhibitions and charity bazaars.

She also highlighted the association’s initiatives and research projects, carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development and various local and international institutions, expressing her gratitude for the Goodwill Campaign’s support.
